Our mission is to glorify God through the provision of medical care, including spiritual and social support,
to underserved adults in Haywood County.

The Good Samaritan Clinic is a 501(c)3 nonprofit medical clinic serving adults in Haywood County. The clinic currently operates in two locations within the county, Canton and Waynesville.

The Good Samaritan Clinic has several programs available to the community.

  • Primary care for uninsured. Patients must be between the ages of 18-64, uninsured, and below 200% of the Federal poverty level.
  • Primary care for new Medicaid enrollees. Patients who do not have a primary caregiver in the county are welcome to become patients.
  • Mental health services. Patients who receive primary care through the clinic can access mental health services at no charge through the clinic. Uninsured adults can receive counseling at no charge. Patients with Medicaid can see a qualified provider.

Another nonprofit, Mountaintop Healthcare operates out of the Waynesville location of the Good Samaritan Clinic. Mountaintop Healthcare offers two programs on a sliding fee scale to the community.

  • Narcotic addiction program. This program uses the drug Suboxone to alleviate withdrawal symptoms from narcotics. Payment for this program is on a sliding fee scale. Only 100 patients may be enrolled in this program at any one time.
  • Walk-in dermatology clinic. This program is available to anyone in the community. Medicare is the only insurance filed. Suspicious lesions, moles, rashes, and other skin problems are diagnosed and treated.

The Good Samaritan Clinic is just like any other doctor’s office. We see patients who struggle with high cholesterol. We treat patients with diabetes and manage their medications. When our patients are sick we provide medical care the same day they call. We are their primary care giver, but to some of our patients we are much more.

In 2010 the Good Samaritan Clinic provided over 5,800 patient visits to adults in Haywood County. That is the equivalent of almost $830,000 in medical care services. The Good Samaritan Clinic provides life changing healthcare and mental health services to many who are struggling financially to make ends meet.

“You never realize how much you appreciate that insurance card in your wallet until you don’t have insurance,” explained a recent patient who became unemployed in the last year.

Being uninsured is a road-block to healthcare. Without insurance many people can’t afford primary care. Patients certainly can’t afford the high costs associated with diagnostic testing, specialist visits, or medication. Many uninsured adults postpone treatment until they can afford it. This delay can complicate conditions.

Who are you helping by giving to the Good Samaritan Clinic? You would be surprised how many people decide to pay their rent or utilities instead of a monthly insurance premium. Many of our patients are faced with the decision to keep their home warm and food on the table or to pay for insurance. Most unemployed patients cannot afford COBRA to continue their insurance. Many adults are taking lesser paying jobs that have no insurance as a benefit or have insurance plans that are too expensive for lower wages.

Just like the parable that Jesus told of the Good Samaritan, the staff and volunteers at the clinic are following his instructions and caring for our neighbors in need. Join Dr. Teater, his staff, and volunteers by taking this opportunity to give. This is your opportunity to help your neighbors in need. 68% of operating funds come from churches and individuals in our community. Without this support the clinic will cease to exist.

Give to a local mission who has been serving your neighbors since 1999. Now more than ever our patients need your financial support!
