Valentine's Day Offering
The Good Samaritan Clinic requests that local churches hold a love offering sometime during the month of February each year. Over 40 churches in the area usually participate by giving members the opportunity to make donations in honor or memory of family or friends. Many people in the community see this as an opportunity to give to a local mission project by financially supporting the health care needs of people in our area.
Our major funding source, Haywood County, cut GSC out of annual funding. United Way was forced to decrease funds to GSC. Major donations and gifts are down. Funding sources award grants based on interest gained during investment activities. With the market at a stand-still these funds are not accessible. GSC is a faith-based organization and does not qualify for many funding sources for this reason.
Fall Fundraiser
In the fall of each year, the Good Samaritan Clinic partners with another nonprofit, Mountaintop Healthcare, to host a full day of fundraising activities. Proceeds from this fundraiser are equally divided between the two and go to benefit uninsured patients.
During the day Bob Ruggiero of Ruggiero and Associates hosts an Antique Discovery Day event. The general public is invited to bring antiques, family heirlooms, and yard sale finds to be evaluated by one of the skilled appraisers at a minimal fee. All appraisal fees benefit the fundraiser. Items from the Antique Discovery Day can also be donated to the fundraiser and auctioned later in the day.
The Fall Fundraiser usually features a guest artist with a local craft unique to the area. Many of our guest artists donate items to the silent auction that is held during dinner. The silent auction features a wide variety of items that dinner guests bid to win the night of the fundraiser.
